About Daphne van der Houwen

Daphne is a counsel in our financial institutions group, focusing on financial services regulatory and fintech. Her practice covers advising financial institutions, fintechs, private equity firms and government authorities on a broad range of regulatory matters including regulatory change, market access and regulatory aspects of complex (cross-border) transactions, portfolio transfers and reorganisations of regulated businesses. Daphne has extensive expertise in governance and conduct regulations and regularly advises on digital assets, insurance, payments and outsourcing matters.

Recent work

  • Advising the European Payments Initiative SE (EPI) on acquiring major instant payment’s scheme Currence iDEAL and Payconiq International and assisting EPI wit dealings with supervisory authorities in connection therewith
  • Advising major US listed crypto exchange Coinbase on its registration with the Dutch Central Bank, as the first global exchange obtaining such registration
  • Advising a number of private equity firms on acquiring stakes in regulated audit businesses in the Netherlands and dealings with the Dutch Financial Markets Authorities
  • Advising a major global asset manager on its non-US investment restrictions work and dealings with local supervisory authorities
  • Advising Saxo Bank on its public offer on BinckBank and the consequent cross border merger between BinckBank and Saxo Banque France
  • Advising Daija Insurance (formerly: Anbang) on the acquisition of VIVAT and the sale of VIVAT to Athora Holding Ltd
  • Advising a number of insurers on the sale of certain of their insurance portfolios
  • Advising a global bank on the outsourcing of its activities

Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer in the Netherlands and a fellow at the VU University in Amsterdam
  • Publishes and lectures on Fintech and financial regulatory topics
