About Philipp Reinecke

Philipp is a member of our Energy and Natural Resources sector group. He advises clients across the energy sector on competition and energy law. The focus of his practice is on renewable energy such as hydrogen, on-/offshore wind, solar and biomass projects. He has particular expertise in European and national regulatory law, energy trading and litigation in these areas. In addition, he has substantial experience in project development, especially regarding offshore wind farm projects.

Prior to joining Freshfields, Philipp worked at a boutique law firm specialized in energy and infrastructure and as a civil litigation judge. Upon graduation he was a scholar of the Carlo-Schmid-Programme at the European Commission (DG Competition) and the European Court of Justice (Chambers of First Advocate General Wathelet).

Recent work

  • Advising various industrial end users and producers on the negotiation of gas and electricity supply contracts (including PPA, EFET)
  • Advising a German transmission system operator in connection with its participation in the hydrogen core network
  • Advising an international banking consortium on the holdco financing for the offshore wind farm 'Gode Wind 3'
  • Advising a European energy company on arbitration proceedings and disputes before state courts in connection with the suspension of Russian gas supplies
  • Advising several private and public companies in connection with the energy price brakes
