About Mohamed Khanaty

Mohamed is a Senior Associate in our Global Project Disputes Practice and specialises in international arbitration and commercial litigation with significant experience in the Middle East.

Mohamed has been based in the Middle East since 2013 advising multinationals in high-value international arbitrations and cross-border litigation, with a focus on commercial disputes, oil and gas claims, project disputes, regulatory risks and enforcement proceedings.

Before relocating to the Middle East, Mohamed was based in Melbourne, Australia for several years representing clients in commercial disputes before State and Federal Courts. 

Mohamed is fluent in English and Arabic.  

Recent work

  • Acted for a Saudi conglomerate against a major corporation in a DIFC-LCIA arbitration seated in the Dubai International Financial Centre concerning investments made in a logistics and transportation business governed by English law.
  • Acted for a private equity firm against a major Middle Eastern group in a DIFC-LCIA arbitration seated in London arising from certain defaults under an English law-governed share purchase agreement and shareholders’ agreement relating to an international restaurant chain.
  • Advised a contractor in an EPC dispute against an employer regarding the salvaging of a very large oil tanker, based on a FIDIC contract with arbitration pursuant to ICC rules seated in Amman, Jordan.
  • Advised a global energy company involved in a dispute with a Middle Eastern national oil company on its costs recovery entitlements under an oil contract with arbitration pursuant to ICC rules seated in Paris.
  • Acted for a multinational oilfield services firm in bringing arbitral enforcement proceedings in multiple jurisdictions across the Middle East, including Jordan, UAE and Iraq.
  • Advised a contractor on its claims against a prominent real estate developer arising out of multiple contracts subject to Dubai law for infrastructure works concerning the development of an industrial area precinct in Dubai.
  • Acted for a global professional services firm to oppose a claim brought by an Iraqi state-owned bank arising out of a liquidation scheme in the UK following the First Gulf War.
  • Acted for a US fund to enforce a Jordanian judgment in the UAE and Iraq against a recalcitrant debtor arising out of a facility agreement and associated securities.
  • Acted for a major international oil company to oppose court proceeding brought by a contractor before the local courts of a Middle Eastern country arising out of a drilling contract governed by ICC Rules seated in Geneva.
  • Acted for an international transportation and logistics organisation to oppose court proceedings brought by a regulator for outstanding tarrifs.
