About Anika Havaldar

Anika Havaldar is an associate in our dispute resolution group, based in Dubai.

Anika’s practice focuses on international commercial arbitration and litigation, international investment arbitration, and public international law.

Anika has represented clients in major disputes under various arbitration rules, including the ICC, ICSID, LCIA, CPR and JAMS rules. She has also acted in complex cross-border litigations in courts in the United States and has significant experience with proceedings before international tribunals, including the International Court of Justice, European Court of Human Rights, and United Nations treaty bodies and special procedures.

Before relocating to Dubai, Anika worked in Freshfields’ Washington D.C. and New York offices. Prior to joining Freshfields, she served as a law clerk to then-President Abdulqawi A. Yusuf at the International Court of Justice and Judge Judith W. Rogers at the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Anika speaks English, Hindi, Marathi, French, and intermediate Arabic.

  • Representing an international oil company in a US$1 billion ad hoc arbitration against a West African state-owned company arising under a joint operating agreement.

  • Advising an international oil company on potential contractual and treaty arbitration claims against a South American state arising from major offshore oil and gas operations.

  • Advising an international oil company on potential contractual and treaty arbitration claims relating to decommissioning and abandonment regulations in Africa.

  • Representing a major industrial corporation in a post-M&A Brazilian law-governed arbitration under ICC rules.

  • Representing an Asian conglomerate in an investment arbitration against an African state concerning a construction project.

  • Representing a major pharmaceutical company in a complex dispute with a biotechnology company arising out of a New York-law governed collaboration, license and option agreement.

  • Representing a major biotechnology company in a multimillion dollar expedited arbitration arising out of a Delaware-law governed collaboration agreement with another major biotechnology company.

  • Advising on multiple United Nations intergovernmental negotiations relating to multilateral environmental agreements.
