About Elena Engels
Elena is a member of our dispute resolution practice group. She specialises in advising and representing clients in complex legal disputes before state courts and arbitration tribunals.
Her advisory work covers all areas of commercial and business law, with a particular focus on cartel damages proceedings. She also advises on liability issues in connection with climate change.
Elena Engels is a member of our Global Antitrust Litigation Group and the International Arbitration Group. She is proficient in German, English and French.
Recent work
- Long-standing representation of clients in and out of court in the defence of antitrust damages claims in connection with inter alia the rail cartel, the truck cartel, the drugstore cartel and the cable cartel.
- Representing a German automotive supplier in arbitration proceedings under the Swiss Rules of International Arbitration in connection with supply disputes.
- Representing a client in DIS arbitration proceedings for breach of duty following the conclusion of an SPA.
- Representation and advice in climate liability disputes.
Qualifications
- Law studies at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf
- Law studies at Université des Cergy-Pontoise, France (degree: Licence en droit)
- Legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf, with inter alia stations at the German Embassy in Ankara, a law firm specialising in antitrust and corporate law and the German Association for International Cooperation (GIZ)
- Lawyer admitted to the Düsseldorf Bar Association
