About Julian Boatin
Julian is a member of our data and technology practice group. He advises both national and international companies on all questions relating to data protection and privacy, new technologies, and media law.
As a data and privacy lawyer, Julian regularly supports organisations with designing and setting up global management data protection and privacy programmes compliant with the German and European legal frameworks. In this context, he advises on the full range of legal matters from general compliance to risk assessments as well as data transfers and data and cyber breaches. Julian further deals with (potential) litigation and legal proceedings and is versed in advising on disclosure matters.
Due to his deep understanding of the tech environment, Julian has also been able to support on numerous technology-driven and innovation projects, including on negotiating agreements in the digital context.
In addition, Julian supports global M&A transactions, in particular commercial aspects in IT/IP law, cyber security, and data privacy compliance.
Julian speaks German and English.
Recent work
- Advising a global tech company on legal proceedings regarding disclosure of user data and data protection issues in various legal proceedings
- Advising an international car manufacturer on various technical innovations with regard to European data protection and technology regulations
- Advising a bio diagnostics company on all data protection issues, in particular the implementation of a global Schrems II project and the implementation of Binding Corporate Rules.
- Various companies in general GDPR compliance matters and implementation of a dedicated governance structure
Qualifications
Education
- Legal Traineeship (Referendariat) at the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf, with placements at an IP boutique in Düsseldorf and the German Federal Cartel Office.
